Elijah Schaffer of Next News Network (NNN) has warned that federal government agencies are hijacking the Constitution.
The NNN reporter lamented how the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) under the Department of Justice had hijacked the Second Amendment – one of the most fundamental freedoms enshrined in the key document. He blasted the ATF’s infringement of the right to keep and bear arms, saying that it is another example of unelected bureaucrats extending their power and authority by attempting to legislate without anyone’s approval or oversight.
Schaffer cited the concerns of Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) over the ATF’s new pistol stabilizer brace rule that she mentioned in a Jan. 25 tweet.
“ATF’s ruling on their pistol brace rule is nothing more than the government’s overreach,” she tweeted. “[President Joe] Biden and his unelected bureaucrats at the ATF are destroying our Second Amendment.”
Under the ATF’s mandate, owners of pistol braces have to register them with the agency; convert the pistols into long-barrel rifles; destroy the entire firearm; or surrender both brace and firearm to the ATF.
Schaffer also pointed to remarks made by Rep. Rich McCormick (R-GA) against the ATF proposal. The NNN reporter played footage of the congressman’s speech, where he similarly denounced unelected federal bureaucrats targeting the Second Amendment.
McCormick warned that the ATF’s plan threatens to make criminals of tens of millions of law-abiding Americans. Moreover, he added that the extra fees and registrations desired by the law enforcement agency is an “unnecessary punishment” for shooting enthusiasts who purchased perfectly legal accessories to their legal firearms.
“Americans are tired of unelected federal agencies spending their tax dollars attacking and curtailing the constitutional rights of law-abiding citizens,” McCormick said in closing his speech.
The NNN reporter also cited a Jan. 20 Breitbart piece about Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) introducing a bill to abolish the ATF.
The congressman for the Sunshine State tweeted: “House Republicans have the ATF in our crosshairs. The continued existence of the ATF is increasingly unwarranted based on their repeated actions to convert law-abiding citizens into felons. My bill would abolish ATF once and for all.” (Related: “Defund the ATF” – Conservatives and politicians push to get ATF defunded and dismantled for anti-gun policies and actions.)
Rep. Eric Burlison (R-MO) also introduced a bill to repeal the National Firearms Act. If passed, the ATF can no longer turn law-abiding gun owners into criminals.
“The situation with the ATF is a prime example of why we must pay close attention to our government’s actions. It is not the first, second or third time that they have disregarded the will of Americans who understand their rights and exactly what these regulations are doing and who they are serving,” Schaffer said.
According to the reporter, the Founding Fathers were wise enough not to create an agency specifically intended to regulate firearms given that they understood how easy it was for a corrupt government to hijack an agency and twist it to suit their own agenda.
Schaffer concluded by saying the American people can avoid this by making sure the ATF is terminated or the citizens will be paying the consequences soon. Americans must never forget the pushback against intrusive federal regulations and remain vigilant in preserving their treasured right to keep and bear arms.
